Amsterdam Design

Amsterdam_design1
September is Design Month in Amsterdam. There are exhibitions, events, lectures and parties galore dotted about the city. Design Month covers everything from fashion, graphic design, architecture, interior design, jewellery design, food design and more.

There’s a handy little booklet that you can pick up from all good design-conscious stores (it’s got little stars on the cover). This will be your bible for the next month. Inside there's a calendar of events and activities, a map, a list of all the hottest shops, restaurants, cafes, bars and hotels, (handy to have any time of the year) plus it’s in Dutch AND English. Rock on.

Design Month runs the whole of September. Don’t miss out!

Why We Love Amsterdam

Spotted from Tim's 0700 bike ride into work this morning: he's more or less naked; he's on rollerskates and - piece de resistence - he's wearing a bathing cap. Of course he is.

The guy on skates, that is. Not Tim.

Tot ziens Calypso

The Calypso/Bellevue Cinerama is being torn down but I don't think anyone will miss it. Good-bye brutal lump of 60's architecture, hello slick modern movieplex with air conditioning and comfy seats. One thing won't change. The Dutch audience will still talk over the film.

Street art exhibition

From now through June 24th the ABC Treehouse is hosting 2007: An Aerosol Odyssey, an exhibition of contemporary street art curated by local street stars Laser 3.14, Tique, Tiquestar, Recal en Mike Clark.

Queen's Day on the Don Lee

Those Queen's Day videos are still coming in. This one was shot by our old friend Don Shelford.

Jesse's Queen's Day

le cool Guide to Amsterdam

"le cool magazine is a free, weekly magazine presenting a selection of concerts, djs, exhibitions, odd movies and other cultural events and happenings. It is also a clever guide to the city's most worthwhile bars, restaurants, shopping and other experiences, without being necessarily trendy - just really good."

Take a look at this week's issue>

Boukje's Kids' Queen's Day

Queen's Day is when kids can exercise their entrepreneurial instincts by setting up stalls in the street and selling old toys or, in this case, homemade muffins and lemonade.

Frank's Queen's Day

Katie found a new friend and together they explored the madness.

Gwen's Queen's Day

Yesterday the Netherlands celebrated Koninginnedag, otherwise known as Queen's Day. As in royalty, not... whatever. The whole country turns into one big orange, thumping, stinking street party. Everyone's experience of Queen's Day is a little different. This is how Gwen, one of our newest creatives, saw it.

"The whole of Amsterdam will turn orange." I put this cap on as I'd like to contribute, it's small though.

Queensday_3

This decision is plainly wrong!! The curved part blocks my upper view. And people can't see me as I'm too short. The result is BUMP BUMP and BUMP... I can't take off the cap now as my hair style become this...

I give up! I decide to return home with KFC fried chicken!
